•Kiln forming workshop (2 half days)
Kiln carving is a type of kiln forming. The process uses materials such as fibreboard, fibre paper and plaster to add texture and relief to glass. In this class we will learn to create moulds for kiln carving out of a number of different materials. We will also look at glass cutting techniques, kiln firing schedules and precise temperature control, to create beautiful works of art. The course will be split into two parts to allow time for the plaster moulds to dry. The course fee is £120 and includes equipment, materials, tuition and your work to take away. Parking is also free.
• Introduction to glass
This course will introduce you to a number of areas of kiln glass, including: fusing, kiln forming, slumping and image transfer. The course fee is £120 and includes, equipment use, basic materials, tuition, firing, finished works and tea and biscuits. Parking is also free directly outside the workshop. For lunch you may either bring a packed lunch or feel free to visit one of the local cafes or shops.
Family classes are held on a regular basis and are best suited for groups of up to 10 people. Family classes are suitable for children and adults age 5+. Parental supervision is essential. Classes vary to allow families to learn new skills every time they attend. One of the most popular classes is the ‘make a glass monster’ class, however, other classes such as make your own coaster, bowl, tiles or key rings are also available.
Birthday Parties and family bookings are available upon request.
Please see the blog section for latest updates on classes available. Book early to ensure your place as spaces are strictly limited.
Schools and Community groups:
Alx Creations is also available to run workshops in schools. These workshops can focus on the production of a piece of artwork or installation for the school or individual items for the children to take home.
There are many cross curriculum possibilities such as Science and Art. Alx Creations also specialises in memories and history, giving the potential to include aspects of history or literature in the work. Children very rarely get the opportunity to work in such a diverse area as glass. These classes offer children the opportunity to safely experiment with colour, light and art in a completely new and exciting way.
Alx Creations also runs a variety of classes for community groups. Previous classes include work with Waves (a day centre for adults with learning disabilities), Guides, WI and Age UK Sheffield. Email email@example.com for further information on classes available.
